The short version
- Your journal belongs to you. We don't sell it, share it, or train on it.
- Kansha is in beta. Things will change and occasionally break.
- It's free. Pro is £2.99/month and free for everyone during the beta.
- AI insights are observations, not facts and not medical advice.
- Leave whenever — export everything, delete everything, no questions.
The sections below are what actually applies. They're short too.
1. Who you are agreeing with
Kansha is built and operated by Matt Hughes, a sole trader based in Bristol, United Kingdom. Throughout these terms, "Kansha", "we" and "us" mean that. "You" means you, the person using the service.
You can reach a real human at matt@getkansha.co.uk.
2. Kansha is in beta
Kansha is early software under active development. Features may change, move, or be removed. Things may occasionally break. We may take the service down for maintenance without much notice.
We think it's good, and we use it daily ourselves — but please don't treat it as the only place a piece of writing exists. Export your data periodically if it matters to you. You can do that at any time from Settings.
3. Your account
You need an email address to use Kansha. You must be at least 16 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country if that's higher.
You're responsible for keeping access to your email secure, because a magic link sent there will sign someone in to your journal. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to your account.
One account is for one person. Please don't share logins.
4. Your journal is yours
You own everything you write in Kansha. We claim no ownership of it and no licence to use it beyond what's needed to run the service for you — storing it, showing it back to you, backing it up, and (only when you ask) sending it for AI analysis.
We do not sell your content. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use it to train AI models, and neither does our AI provider on our behalf.
You can export everything or delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion removes your data from our systems promptly and is not reversible.
5. AI analysis
Kansha can send your recent journal entries to Anthropic's API to generate insights. This only happens when you ask it to, and only after a screen showing you exactly what is about to be sent.
Entries you've marked private with the lock icon are never included.
AI-generated insights are observations produced by a language model reading text. They are not facts, not a diagnosis, and not professional advice of any kind. Some will be wrong. Treat them as a prompt for your own reflection and nothing more.
6. Kansha is not healthcare
Kansha is a journalling and reflection tool. Some of its exercises draw on published psychology research, but it is not therapy, not a medical device, and not a substitute for professional support.
Nothing in Kansha should be used to diagnose or treat any condition. If you're struggling with your mental health, please speak to your GP or a qualified professional. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency services or, in the UK, call Samaritans free on 116 123.
7. Reasonable use
Please don't use Kansha to break the law, to store or send content that is unlawful, or to harass anybody — including through the gratitude-letter feature, which can send email to an address you provide.
Please don't attempt to access other people's data, disrupt the service, scrape it, or work around the rate limits that keep it affordable to run.
We can suspend or close accounts that do these things.
8. Paid plans
The core journal is free. A Pro plan is available at the price shown on the pricing section of our home page, billed monthly in advance through Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
During the beta, Pro features are available to everyone at no charge. If that changes, we'll tell you by email before you're asked to pay anything.
You can cancel at any time from Settings. Cancelling stops future payments and you keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for. We don't automatically refund part-months, but if something has gone wrong, email us — we'd rather sort it out than argue about it.
If you're a consumer in the UK or EU you have statutory cancellation rights, and nothing here takes those away.
9. Availability
We aim to keep Kansha running and your data safe, but we can't promise uninterrupted or error-free service. Kansha depends on third parties — currently Supabase, Netlify, Anthropic, SendGrid, Stripe and Unsplash — and an outage at any of them can affect it.
We may change or discontinue features. If we ever shut Kansha down, we'll give you reasonable notice and a way to export everything first.
10. Liability
Kansha is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, or loss of data beyond what we could reasonably have foreseen.
Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you've paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or £50.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't legally be limited. If you're a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
11. Ending things
You can stop using Kansha and delete your account whenever you like, without giving a reason.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms, or if we're required to by law. Except where it would be unlawful or impractical, we'll give you notice and a chance to export your data.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Kansha develops. If a change materially affects your rights, we'll email registered users before it takes effect.
The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed. Continuing to use Kansha after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes fall to the courts of England and Wales.
If you're a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and can bring proceedings there.
