How we handle your journal
A journal is an intimate thing. Here's exactly how Kansha treats yours โ in plain language, without the legal jargon.
No human reads your entries
Nobody at Kansha can read what you write. Not the founder, not a moderator, not a support person. Your entries exist in a database accessible only by you.
AI only runs when you ask
Your entries are never automatically sent to any AI. The insights feature only runs when you click "Generate insights" โ and you see exactly what gets sent before it goes.
Your data lives in Europe
Everything is stored in an EU-based database (Supabase on AWS Ireland). It doesn't move unless you explicitly generate AI insights, which briefly routes text through Anthropic's API.
Analytics that cannot see you
We count page views with Vemetric โ cookieless, EU-hosted, no IP addresses, no cross-site tracking, and no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to. It records that a page was opened. It cannot read a word of your journal.
You can delete everything
One button in Settings wipes your account completely โ every entry, every log, every goal, your email address, everything. Immediately. Permanently. No waiting period.
Does Kansha use my entries to train AI?
No. When you generate insights, your entries are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis and then discarded. They are not used to train Claude or any other model. We have a Data Processing Agreement with Anthropic that covers this.
Who can technically access my database?
The database uses row-level security โ every query is filtered by your user ID, so even if another user somehow accessed the database, they could only see their own rows. Matt Hughes (the founder) has administrator access as the Supabase project owner, but Kansha has no workflows, dashboards, or tools that display individual users' journal content.
What happens when I generate insights?
The text of your most recent journal entries (up to 30), your food log summaries, and your goal titles are bundled and sent to Claude via a secure server-side function. Claude reads them, generates pattern cards, and the results come back to your screen. The raw entries are not stored by Anthropic beyond what their API terms allow.
Can I choose which entries get sent to AI?
Yes. In the History tab of Insights, every entry has a ๐ lock icon. Tap it to mark that entry as private โ it will be excluded from all future AI analysis. You can lock and unlock entries any time.
Do you sell data or show ads?
No and no. Kansha has no advertising business model and no data brokerage relationships. The only revenue source is Pro subscriptions. Your data is never sold, shared, or used to target you with anything.
How do I get a copy of everything Kansha holds about me?
Settings โ Download my data. You'll get a JSON file with every journal entry, reflection answer, food log, and goal โ timestamped and in full.
What if I want to leave?
Settings โ Delete my account. After a two-step confirmation, everything is permanently deleted within seconds โ your entries, your profile, your email address, your subscription record. There's no "cooling off" period where data lingers.
